score analysis

No survey of the Giallo genre would be complete without the inclusion of this ultra trashy contribution from Andrea Bianchi, who went on to direct the equally trash zombie film, Burial Ground

Strip Nude For Your Killer incorporates just about all of the genre's characteristics, including a black gloved killer, scantily clad fashion models, motorcycles, copious amounts of J&B, a fumbling police investigation and an amateur detective who's determined to solve the murder using infrared photography and a misplaced earring. At its core, Strip Nude is a run-of-the-mill Giallo that does very little to challenge boundaries of the genre or even flourish within them.

Despite this, Strip Nude For Your Killer is a favorite among even the most academic fans of the genre because it's more than just an ordinary Giallo. It combines elements of exploitation and satire to keep us all entertained while we suffer through a weak story and bad acting (even by Giallo standards!).

Carlo, the "hero" of the film is misogynistic fashion photographer who just can't seem to keep girls from stripping in front of him. With the help of his trusty assistant Magda (played by Edwige Fenech with a pixie cut) he's able solve the mystery, stop the killer and still have time make an anal sex joke before the credits roll.

But that's not all!

Let's not forget about the power couple who owns modeling agency. She, a frigid and sadistic lesbian who competes with Carlo to seduce all the models (and has some of the worst lines in the film). And he, a freakishly obese sexual failure who can only perform with a blow up doll and spends WAY too much time in front of the camera in just his briefs.

And then there's the killer him/herself (do I REALLY need to avoid the spoiler here?). The fetishistic aspect of the black gloves portrayed in most Gialli is emphasized to the point of absurdity with the full leather body suit and motorcycle helmet. It's almost as if the killer is on their way to a BDSM party and stops for a murder along the way.

Again, all of this helps to create a very entertaining film that would otherwise be sleep-inducing. The few times where the film attempts to create tension are boring and the actual murder sequences are lackluster. Personally I think it's difficult to feel scared for a 300 pound man walking around in "tighty-whities" holding a knife.

Intentionally or otherwise, Strip Nude pokes fun at the genre that enabled it to exist in the first place. It's not for the easily offended (what Giallo is?) or the serious film scholar. But if you're neither of these it's definitely worth a watch, especially with a beverage or three.
